Guwahati, March 25: The Election Commission of India has accepted the nomination of BJP candidate and minister Ashok Singhal from the Dhekiajuli constituency, resolving uncertainty following objections raised during the scrutiny process.
Official records show that all four nomination papers submitted by Singhal have been declared valid, confirming his eligibility to contest the Assembly election. The development comes after Congress candidate Batash Orang lodged formal objections, alleging discrepancies such as missing identification details, alleged alterations in documents and incomplete information.
Despite the challenges, the nomination was cleared after due examination and consultations with election authorities, indicating that the documentation met the required norms.
In a parallel decision, the Commission also validated the nomination of Orang, paving the way for a direct contest between the two prime candidates in the Dhekiajuli seat.
The updated status of both nominations has been reflected on the Election Commission’s official portal, confirming their participation in the upcoming electoral contest.
