Dhakuakhana: Preparations for the 2026 edition of Phata Bihu, one of the oldest and most vibrant folk traditions of the region, have officially begun with the inauguration of the festival’s temporary office on Wednesday. The office of the three-day celebration committee was inaugurated in a lively and well-attended event by noted Assamese actress Prastuti Parashar. The event drew a large gathering of cultural enthusiasts and local residents, reflecting the deep-rooted significance of the festival in the region.

The programme was conducted by committee secretary Prasanta Hazarika in the presence of Phata Bihu Committee president Basanta Saikia, celebration committee president Hemanta Gogoi, and secretary Chandrajit Saikia. Welcoming the gathering, Basanta Saikia emphasised the inclusive spirit of Phata Bihu, describing it as a shared cultural heritage of all communities and faiths. He called upon people from all walks of life to extend their support for the success of the festival.
Hemanta Gogoi, in his address, highlighted the cultural pride associated with Phata Bihu and invited people across Assam to take part in the celebrations. He noted that the festival stands as a symbol of unity and tradition, showcasing the rich folk heritage of the state. With preparations now underway, organisers expressed optimism that this year’s celebrations will further strengthen the cultural bond among communities and attract wide participation from across the region.
