Rupjyoti Kurmi Predicts BJP Landslide in Assam, Says Congress May Slip to Third Spot

Guwahati, March 28: Rupjyoti Kurmi has expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, projecting a landslide victory for the party with more than 100 seats.

Speaking to reporters, the five-time MLA from Mariani said the Indian National Congress could struggle to retain its position as the principal opposition, suggesting that the All India United Democratic Front may emerge as the second-largest party. “Congress may be pushed to third position,” he remarked.

Kurmi also targeted Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, describing him as a “Delhi-based leader” and claiming that he faces a likely defeat in the Jorhat constituency due to limited grassroots engagement.

Dismissing the understanding between Congress and Akhil Gogoi, Kurmi said there is “no natural alliance” between the two, questioning its effectiveness on the ground.

Highlighting the BJP’s governance record, he said the government has addressed key concerns of tea garden workers and tribal communities, attributing these efforts to initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the issue of infiltration, Kurmi alleged that it is a legacy problem inherited from previous Congress governments and asserted that the BJP is taking steps to identify and deport illegal infiltrators.

With campaigning intensifying, Kurmi reiterated his confidence that voters will back the BJP’s development agenda, projecting a decisive mandate for the party in the upcoming polls.
