Jorhat: A powerful explosion at a rented house in Rajamaidam New Colony in Assam’s Jorhat district claimed two lives and left a young girl critically injured, triggering panic in the area on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Md. Iqbal and Noor Mohammad. According to initial reports, the blast occurred inside the rented residence, killing Noor Mohammad on the spot. The impact of the explosion was so intense that the body was severely mutilated.

Two children present in the house—an eight-year-old boy, Md. Iqbal, and a seven-year-old girl—were critically injured in the incident and rushed to the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Doctors later confirmed that the boy succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of the girl remains critical. Police and emergency teams reached the site soon after the explosion and cordoned off the area. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the blast, which remains unclear at this stage.
