Three Militants Arrested in Manipur Operations, Arms and Explosives Seized

Imphal, March 29: Security forces in Manipur arrested three militants linked to different proscribed outfits during a series of operations conducted over two days, officials said on March 29, as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activity.

An active cadre of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), identified as Kharibam Boynao Meitei alias Lamngakpa (32), was apprehended from Ishingthembi Mapal Leikai under Sagolmang police station in Imphal East district on March 28.

On the same day, another operative, Thokchom Kheljit Meitei alias Canny (48), associated with the People’s Liberation Army of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF/PLA), was arrested from the Hapta Kangjeibung area under Porompat police station. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

Earlier, on March 27, security personnel arrested Moirangthem Bijen Singh (55) from Dibong Awang Leikai in Jiribam district, recovering two hand grenades and five rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

In a separate operation, Md. Sanajaoba (30) was apprehended from Porompat Ayangpalli Road in Imphal East district. Authorities seized three locally made firearms along with two magazines from him.

Meanwhile, search operations in Churachandpur district led to the recovery of two exploded 81 mm mortar shells from Matijang and Phuoljang villages.

Officials said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the network and to identify possible links, as security forces continue operations to tackle insurgency and illegal arms circulation in the state.
