Tripura: ONGC Employee Arrested for Alleged Assault on 8-Year-Old Autistic Girl in Residential Colony

Agartala, March 29: Tripura Police have taken into custody an employee of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited in connection with the alleged assault of an eight-year-old autistic girl at a residential colony, officials confirmed on March 28.

The accused, identified as Deep Golap Das, is employed in the fire department of the public sector company. Police have registered a case against him under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections 126(2), 117(2), 308(2) and 353(3).

According to officials, the case came to light after a complaint was lodged on March 24 by the child’s parent at Amtali police station. Officer-in-charge Paritosh Das said the complaint alleged that the minor had been physically assaulted by the accused. Following this, a case was registered and an investigation was initiated.

Police said the inquiry confirmed that the child had been subjected to both physical assault and abuse, leading to the arrest of the accused. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident occurred while the child was playing with other children in the ONGC residential colony. It is alleged that she wrote “ABCD” on the accused’s car, which triggered a violent reaction.

Psychologist and social worker Carol D’Souza, who shared details of the case, described the victim as a special child and said the assault left her with severe bruising across her body, requiring medical treatment for two days. She termed the incident deeply disturbing and called for strict action against the accused.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with further details expected as the probe progresses.
