Kaziranga Sees Strong Tourist Footfall Ahead of Assam Polls, Safaris Run Uninterrupted

Guwahati, March 30: Strong tourist activity was recorded at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on March 30, even as Assam gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, indicating that the poll schedule has had little impact on travel plans.

Visitors from across the state and different parts of the country continued to arrive at the park, known globally for its population of one-horned rhinoceroses. Safari operations, including both elephant and jeep rides, remained fully functional, with many tourists reporting successful wildlife sightings.

Tourists expressed satisfaction with their experience. Harshal, visiting from Maharashtra, said it was his first trip to Kaziranga and that he had already spotted a rhinoceros during an elephant safari, adding that he hoped to see a tiger next. Another visitor, Jahnavi, described the experience as enjoyable, noting favourable weather conditions and smooth safari operations.

Local guide Apurba Gogoi said that election-related activities have not affected tourism. He noted that visitor inflow remains steady, with both tourism and election processes continuing simultaneously.

Some visitors also acknowledged the upcoming polls while continuing with their travel plans. Mintu from Guwahati said he would visit Orchid Park before returning to cast his vote, expressing hope for a peaceful election. Others, including Ratan Debnath and Abdul Kadir, echoed similar sentiments, stating that tourism and civic responsibilities were being managed independently.

Meanwhile, the state government has highlighted conservation progress alongside tourism growth. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently stated that no incidents of rhino poaching were recorded in Kaziranga in 2025, attributing the achievement to strengthened protection measures.

With election preparations underway for the April 9 polls, Kaziranga continues to attract visitors, reflecting the resilience of the state’s tourism sector amid parallel administrative priorities.
