Pijush Hazarika Reiterates BJP’s UCC Promise, Targets Opposition

Guwahati: Assam Minister and BJP candidate from Jagiroad, Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday reiterated the party’s commitment to implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating it would be enforced within three months if the BJP returns to power in the state. Addressing a public rally in Hojai, Hazarika said a uniform legal framework is essential, asserting that “there should be one law for all citizens.” He expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, claiming the government has consistently delivered on its promises. “He does what he says. We will implement everything outlined in our manifesto,” he added.

The minister also raised the issue of illegal infiltration, stating that the government would take firm steps to address the matter in line with its policy priorities. In a sharp attack on the opposition, Hazarika claimed that public support strongly favours the BJP and predicted a poor turnout at Congress rallies. “No one will go to Congress’s public meeting,” he remarked. The statements come amid intensified campaigning across Assam ahead of the Assembly elections, with political parties sharpening their agendas and outreach to voters.
