Boko: Tension gripped Boko on Sunday after a group of students staged a protest demanding justice for Assam’s music icon Zubeen Garg. The demonstrators attempted to march along the main highway but were intercepted by police and administrative officials. Authorities said the move was part of precautionary measures to maintain law and order, especially in view of a scheduled election rally of the Chief Minister in the area.

Security forces were deployed in large numbers to prevent the protesters from proceeding towards the rally venue. Despite being stopped, the students raised slogans and voiced strong concerns over what they alleged were attempts to politicise the singer’s death. They termed such developments inappropriate and demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Officials maintained that the situation was closely monitored to avoid any escalation. “Adequate arrangements were made to ensure peace and public safety,” a senior official said. No major incidents of violence were reported during the protest, and the situation was later brought under control by the administration. The incident comes amid heightened political activity in the state ahead of the ongoing Assembly election campaign, with authorities remaining vigilant to ensure peaceful proceedings.
