All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Assam government, calling on political leaders to move beyond Hindu-Muslim divisions and place greater emphasis on humanity.
Speaking during a visit to Barpeta district, Ajmal criticised what he described as attempts to divide people along religious lines, saying such politics only deepened social divisions.
Addressing the gathering, the AIUDF president said people should remember that they were human beings before anything else and questioned when those engaged in divisive politics would learn to value humanity.
Stepping up his criticism of the ruling dispensation, Ajmal said leaders who repeatedly made statements centred on religious identities should first learn to behave like human beings. He alleged that those promoting communal divisions were acting in a manner worse than animals and urged them to stop speaking about Hindus and Muslims and instead focus on humanity.
Ajmal’s remarks come amid continuing political exchanges in Assam over issues relating to religion, identity and community-based politics, themes that have remained at the centre of the state’s political discourse in recent months.
