Sarma Alleges Forgery, ‘Pakistan Link’ in Khera Row as FIR Filed

Guwahati, April 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday escalated his attack on Congress leaders, accusing them of using fabricated documents to influence the electoral process and alleging a “Pakistan link” to the controversy.

Sarma claimed that Pawan Khera and Gaurav Gogoi held coordinated press conferences in Delhi and Guwahati based on what he described as fraudulent material. He said presenting such documents in public could attract stringent penal provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, particularly in cases involving fraud and forgery.

He further asserted that if fabricated documents are used with the intent to influence elections, the offence becomes more serious, potentially inviting severe legal consequences, including life imprisonment if proven.

The Chief Minister also said that his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, has filed an FIR in connection with the allegations. He expressed confidence that the police would carry out a detailed investigation into the matter and trace the origin of the documents.

In a significant claim, Sarma alleged that the material presented during Khera’s press conference had links to Pakistani social media ecosystems. He stated that Pakistani channels had recently aired multiple discussions on Assam elections, which he claimed projected narratives favourable to the Congress, suggesting an external influence angle.

Strengthening his counterargument, Sarma said the Assam BJP created a mock digital entity named “GauravElizabeth786” to demonstrate how easily fake records or companies can be generated online. He argued that such tools could be misused to create misleading information that appears authentic on public platforms.

The developments mark a further escalation in the political confrontation between the BJP and Congress in Assam, as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Assembly elections.
