Imphal, April 7: Fresh violence has jolted Manipur after a suspected militant attack left two children dead and their mother injured in Tronglaobi village of Bishnupur district in the early hours of the day.
According to sources, suspected Kuki militants launched a projectile, believed to be a rocket, targeting a civilian house in Moirang Tronglaobi. The explosive struck the residence directly, causing a powerful blast that killed two siblings—a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister—on the spot, while their mother sustained serious injuries.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the house and triggered panic across the village, with residents rushing to the scene to assist in rescue efforts. Locals alleged that the projectile was fired from nearby hill slopes, indicating a launch point located over three kilometres away.
Tronglaobi lies along the sensitive hill-valley fringe of Bishnupur district, close to elevated areas of Churachandpur district, a region that has witnessed recurring tensions in recent months.
Following the incident, security has been tightened significantly in the area. Additional forces have been deployed, while surveillance and search operations have been launched in adjoining hill regions. Authorities are also monitoring other vulnerable villages along the hill-valley boundary to prevent further escalation.
