Violence Erupts in Moirang After Deadly Attack; Protesters Torch Vehicles, Storm Police Station

Imphal, April 7: Tensions escalated sharply in Moirang as protests turned violent following a deadly attack in Tronglaobi village of Bishnupur district, with angry residents storming a police station, setting vehicles on fire, and blocking key roads.

The unrest followed an early morning strike in Moirang Tronglaobi, where suspected militants allegedly fired a projectile at a residential house. The explosion killed two children—a five-year-old boy and his five-month-old sister—while their mother was left injured.

In the aftermath, large crowds took to the streets, accusing authorities of failing to protect civilians despite repeated assurances of peace in Manipur. Protesters forced their way into the Moirang Police Station premises and torched at least three trucks carrying essential supplies. Road blockades further disrupted movement across the area.

Residents expressed growing anger and insecurity, questioning the continued vulnerability of communities living along the sensitive hill-valley fringe zones, where such incidents have recurred.

The local MLA visited the affected area and condemned the attack, while additional security forces were deployed in large numbers to control the situation and prevent further escalation.
