Kharge Targets BJP in Guwahati Rally, Raises Corruption Allegations and Zubeen Garg Issue

Guwahati, April 7: Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on April 7 launched a sharp attack on the BJP leadership during a public rally in Guwahati, raising allegations of corruption and questioning the Centre’s response.

Referring to Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Kharge criticised BJP leaders for targeting him and questioned what Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat had to say regarding the allegations of corruption. He also accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh of maintaining double standards on the issue.

Escalating his criticism, Kharge alleged that Assam has one of the most corrupt chief ministers in the country, intensifying his attack on the ruling party ahead of the elections.

He also raised the issue involving singer Zubeen Garg, claiming that justice in the matter was delayed and alleging that a fast-track court was set up only after six months. He questioned the delay and asked who authorities were trying to protect.

Kharge said that if the Congress forms the government, it would ensure justice in the case within 100 days by expediting legal proceedings and taking action against those responsible.

The remarks come amid heightened political activity in Assam ahead of the Assembly elections, with campaigning entering its final phase.
