MUKTIPATH Extends Compassionate Final Rites Support Across Assam

Guwahati: Assam-based voluntary organisation PATHIK continues to expand its humanitarian outreach through its flagship initiative MUKTIPATH, a unique service dedicated to supporting the last rites of the poor and needy. Since its inception on January 26, 2021, the initiative has assisted 529 individuals, including 436 with guardians and 93 unidentified persons, ensuring dignity in death regardless of social or economic status.

Guided by the motto “One Community and One Religion,” MUKTIPATH provides financial and logistical support for burial and funeral ceremonies across all communities in Assam. The initiative is sustained through a community-driven funding model, where members of a dedicated WhatsApp group contribute a minimum of Rs. 100 per month, with no upper limit.

In recognition of its impactful service, State Bank of India (SBI) extended support under its CSR initiative by donating two specially designed mortuary vans on November 20, 2024, enabling the project to reach more remote areas efficiently. MUKTIPATH has also served several notable personalities, including late filmmaker and poet Rafikul Hussain and educationist Indrajit Kumar Baruah. Managed by Sanjib Saikia from Jorhat and Dimbeswar Das from Guwahati, the service remains open to all willing contributors. PATHIK, which operates over 15 social initiatives spanning healthcare, sanitation, and rural development, will celebrate its 23rd anniversary on August 2.
