Mizoram Governor Completes Self-Enumeration, Calls Digital Census a Landmark Initiative

Aizawl, April 8: Vijay Kumar Singh has completed his self-enumeration for the upcoming census, describing India’s first digital census as a “landmark initiative” and urging citizens to actively participate in the exercise.

Emphasising the importance of comprehensive data collection, the Governor appealed to residents to register through the census platform and cooperate fully with enumerators to ensure that no individual is left out. He also directed officials to make the process seamless and accessible, particularly in remote areas of the state.

Highlighting the role of community engagement, Singh underscored the need for coordination between census authorities and local village councils, stating that grassroots support would be key to smooth implementation.

Senior officials from the Directorate of Census Operations briefed him on the progress of the exercise, noting that the digital census is being conducted in two phases. The Housing Census began on April 1, while the Population Enumeration phase is scheduled for February next year.

Officials said the self-enumeration window will remain open from April 1 to April 15, 2026, followed by the House Listing and Housing Census across Mizoram from April 16 to May 15.

Reiterating his appeal, Singh stressed that accurate census data is essential for effective governance and informed development planning, calling on citizens to take the process seriously.
