Tezpur: Tezpur University organised a one-day photography workshop titled “Within the Frame”, bringing together students, faculty members, and photography enthusiasts as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of its Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. The workshop, hosted by the university’s Photography Club in collaboration with the department, witnessed active participation and interactive learning sessions. Pro Vice Chancellor Amarendra Kumar Das attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Registrar-in-Charge Chandan Goswami and Dean of Students’ Welfare Manvendra Mandal.

In his address, Dr. Das highlighted the growing importance of photography as a powerful communication tool in both academic and professional spheres, noting that such initiatives enhance creativity and applied learning among students. Head of the Department, Manoj Deori, delivered the welcome address, emphasising the role of visual storytelling in modern media education and the value of practical exposure through collaborative programmes.
The technical session was led by noted photographer Arpan Kalita, who provided insights into composition, framing, balance, and creative expression. He encouraged participants to develop their own style through observation and practice, while explaining key concepts such as the Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio, and effective use of light and colour. Kalita also addressed ethical practices in photography, stressing the importance of consent and rapport with subjects. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Junali Deka, Assistant Professor, Department of MCJ.
