Gaurav Gogoi Casts Vote, Expresses Confidence of Political Change in Assam

GUWAHATI, April 9: Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi cast his vote on April 9 in the ongoing Assam Legislative Assembly elections, expressing confidence that the state is headed towards a significant political transformation.

Speaking to the media after voting, Gogoi described the day as crucial for Assam, stating that people were coming forward to make a decisive choice. He said the optimism among voters reflected the possibility of an “empowered and new Assam” when results are declared on May 4.

He added that the electorate was supporting democratic values and progress, asserting that voters would uphold the state’s civilisational, moral, and democratic ideals.

Before casting his vote, Gogoi paid floral tributes to his father and former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, recalling his legacy and contributions to the state.

Accompanying him at the polling station, his mother Dolly Gogoi expressed gratitude to voters and sought their support, while his aunt Lakshani Rani Gogoi extended her blessings and voiced hope for the state’s continued development.

The Jorhat constituency has emerged as a key battleground in Upper Assam, where Gogoi is contesting against sitting MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies is underway from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the Indian National Congress contesting as part of a multi-party alliance against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which is seeking a third consecutive term. Counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.
