Major Yaba Haul Seized in Tripura, One Arrested in Joint Assam Rifles–DRI Operation

Agartala, April 12: A joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence led to the seizure of a massive consignment of narcotics and the arrest of a suspected trafficker in Tripura on April 11.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel intercepted a Mahindra pick-up vehicle in the Teliamura area of Khowai district. Upon searching the vehicle, officials recovered nearly 2,00,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated illegal market value of around ₹16 crore.

The accused, identified as Raju Deb (44), a resident of Jalilpur in West Tripura, was apprehended at the scene. Authorities confirmed that he, along with the seized narcotics and the vehicle, has been handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Officials noted that the trafficking of Yaba tablets has been on the rise across Northeast India, contributing to increasing concerns over addiction and associated criminal activities, particularly in border areas. The latest seizure is seen as a significant disruption to an active supply network.

The Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to working in coordination with the DRI to intensify anti-narcotics operations and strengthen efforts to curb illegal drug trafficking in the region.
