Numal Momin Backs PM Modi, Slams Opposition Over Women’s Reservation Bill

Guwahati, April 19: Assam Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Numal Momin on April 18 supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the developments surrounding the women’s reservation bill, alleging that its failure in Parliament exposed what he described as the “true stance” of the Opposition, particularly the Indian National Congress.

Reacting to the outcome, Momin claimed that the bill was rejected by Opposition parties led by the Congress, despite their repeated assertions of backing women’s empowerment. He termed the development a “shameful act” and said it reflected a gap between the Opposition’s statements and actions on the issue.

He also criticised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, alleging that his remarks during visits abroad tend to portray India negatively.

Momin further stated that the Opposition’s position suggested an attempt to hinder the country’s development, echoing the Prime Minister’s observations following the bill’s inability to secure passage in Parliament.
