AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam Slams Govt Over Recurring Flash Floods in Guwahati

Guwahati, April 10: Rafiqul Islam on April 20 criticised the government over recurring flash floods in Guwahati, stating that the city continues to face severe waterlogging despite repeated assurances and substantial expenditure.

Reacting to the situation following recent rainfall, the MLA said even moderate showers lead to widespread flooding, disrupting daily life. He noted that schools had to be shut due to inundated roads and traffic congestion, while in certain areas vehicles were reportedly swept away by strong currents.

Islam alleged a lack of scientific planning in addressing the issue and claimed that large sums of public money had been spent without yielding visible improvements. He said that despite multiple commitments by the authorities, the problem remains unresolved.

Urging immediate intervention, he called on the government to treat the matter with urgency and implement effective, long-term solutions to tackle the persistent flood crisis in the city.
