Bongaigaon, April 23: A major seizure of suspected smuggled gold was carried out by Railway Police at New Bongaigaon Railway Station, where an individual was detained during a targeted raid.
The accused, identified as Amar Ali, was intercepted while travelling aboard the down North East Express. Officials recovered approximately 582 grams of gold from his possession during the operation.
Preliminary assessments placed the value of the seized consignment at over ₹1 crore. Police sources indicated that the gold was being transported from Barpeta to Bihar when the consignment was intercepted.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the gold and examine possible links to a wider smuggling network. Further inquiries are currently underway.
