Three Women Killed After Car Rams Parked Truck in Guwahati, Driver Absconds

Guwahati, April 26: Three women lost their lives in a late-night road accident in Guwahati after a speeding car crashed into a parked truck in the Madgharia area during the early hours of April 26.

According to police, the incident occurred between 3:00 am and 4:00 am when a white Maruti Swift (AS-01GP-0562), carrying four occupants, collided with the stationary vehicle. Two women, both in their mid-twenties, died on the spot due to the impact, while a third woman, around 30 years old, was critically injured and later succumbed at a hospital.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash and remains untraced.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Akanksha Saikia and Puja Saha, who were employed in the admissions department of Royal Global University. Police said the two were close friends.

Preliminary information suggests that the victims had attended a stand-up comedy show at ITA Machkhowa earlier in the evening. Akanksha had reportedly informed her landlord that she would stay overnight at a friend’s residence.

Akanksha Saikia hailed from Charaideo, while Puja Saha was a resident of Goalpara. The incident has left both families in deep shock.

Police have identified the owner of the vehicle as a resident of Dhemaji, who had reportedly rented it out to a travel agency. An investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident and to trace the absconding driver.
