Manipur: 51 Kg Suspected Opium Seized in Jiribam, Two Arrested During Highway Interception

Imphal, April 29: Security forces seized approximately 51 kilograms of suspected opium and arrested two individuals during an operation along National Highway-37 in Jiribam district, officials said.

The interception took place at Leingangpokpi village under Jiribam Police Station during routine checking, when a Tata truck was stopped and searched. The inspection led to the recovery of two carton boxes containing the contraband substance.

The accused were identified as Sukhvinder Singh (30), a resident of Mari Udhoke in Punjab, and Sandeep Singh Tilno (41), from Gudiyan Purwa, Tanda Nijamali in Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to the narcotics, security personnel seized the Tata truck used for transportation as well as three mobile phones recovered from the possession of the accused.

Officials confirmed that both individuals, along with the seized items, have been handed over to Jiribam Police Station for further legal proceedings. An investigation is currently underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the consignment.
