Jhagaru Gour Football Tournament 2025 ends in thrilling finale

Tezpur: The grand finale of the 4th Edition of the Freedom Fighter Jhagaru Gour Memorial Football Tournament 2025 concluded with great fanfare at Thakurbari Planters Club Field, Rangapara. An enthusiastic crowd of over 15,000 football lovers gathered to witness high-voltage action and vibrant cultural performances. Organized by Aadhunik India Foundation with the support of the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps and 27 Rajput Regiment, the tournament has emerged as one of the region’s most awaited sporting events. Dedicated to the legacy of freedom fighter Jhagaru Gour, it provided a platform for tea garden and Adivasi youths to showcase their football talent. In the championship clash, Sonabeel FC registered a resounding 5-0 victory over Sessa FC, lifting the coveted trophy. The winners received a cash prize of ₹30,000 along with jerseys, medals, and certificates, while the runner-up team was awarded ₹20,000 and trophies. Maj Gen H.S. Gill, Chief Guest, presented prizes to the champions, while Guest of Honor SSB DIG H.N.S. Bisht felicitated the runner-up team. Referees were also honoured for their contribution. The finale blended sports with culture, featuring 100 Jhumar dancers, Saura Dance performances, and a captivating show by the Indian Army Band. Dignitaries were welcomed with Assamese gamochas, symbolizing gratitude and respect. Addressing the gathering, D.K. Chauhan, National President of Aadhunik India Foundation, lauded the Indian Army’s historic role in guiding tea garden youths and encouraged players to aim for national and professional opportunities. Maj Gen Gill praised the spirit of the young players and stressed discipline and hard work as keys to success. The release of the souvenir Adivasi Udaan and the felicitation of over 120 volunteers and 100 Army personnel added to the event’s significance. The tournament not only celebrated football but also unity, culture, and youth empowerment, carrying forward the inspiring legacy of Jhagaru Gour.
