Shillong, May 3: The first phase of the house listing and housing census has commenced across Meghalaya, with authorities introducing a self-enumeration system that enables households to submit their details online ahead of physical verification.
The exercise began on May 1 and provides residents a 15-day window to complete registration through a dedicated web portal. Each household is assigned a unique identification number, which will later be verified by enumerators during door-to-door field visits.
Officials stated that the house-to-house listing phase will be conducted from May 16 to June 14, forming a key part of the broader census process.
The rollout saw participation from senior state leadership. Governor C H Vijayashankar registered on the portal at Lok Bhavan in Shillong, while Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma, and Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar completed their registrations from their official residences.
Senior officials from the state government, the Directorate of Census Operations, and the East Khasi Hills district administration were also present during the launch.
Authorities described the portal as user-friendly and urged citizens to complete the self-enumeration process within the stipulated timeframe to ensure a smooth and efficient census operation.
