Agartala, May 3: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on May 2 directed officials to accelerate urban development projects across the state, emphasising strict adherence to deadlines, quality execution, and sustained maintenance to ensure long-term public benefit.
Chairing a review meeting at the war room of his official residence, TIFT, Saha assessed the progress of initiatives under the Urban Development Department and various urban bodies. He instructed authorities to expedite key projects implemented under the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA), including the Junction Gate in Agartala and the Lighthouse Project at the Akhaura border.
The Chief Minister also prioritised the proposed city hospital project, aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, and called for the swift installation of CCTV cameras across urban centres to improve safety and support modern surveillance systems. He further directed the construction of railings along footpaths to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce accident risks.
Among other key directions, Saha reviewed the Gomati Riverfront development project in Udaipur and instructed officials to ensure proper maintenance of existing pump houses while constructing new ones wherever required.
He expressed satisfaction over the near completion of pink toilets across 20 urban locations and stressed the need for environmentally responsible handling of idol immersion waste by the Agartala Municipal Corporation, including proper placement or recycling after festivals. The Chief Minister also underlined the importance of regular door-to-door garbage collection and improved solid waste management systems.
The meeting covered a wide range of ongoing schemes, including the Mukhyamantri Urban Development Project, Satellite Township initiative, AMRUT 2.0, Asian Development Bank-supported projects, Smart City Mission, city beautification programmes, and SASCI. Saha stated that timely execution of these initiatives would enhance public service delivery and strengthen administrative accountability.
Senior officials present at the review included Chief Secretary J K Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid A, Urban Development Director Megha Jain, and TUDA Commissioner Mihir Kanti Gop.
