Himanta Biswa Sarma Says Prediction Matched Assam Election Outcome as NDA Secures Third Consecutive Term

Guwahati, May 5: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 5 stated that his assessment of the BJP-led alliance’s performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections had closely matched the final results, sharing a handwritten note on social media after the declaration of outcomes.

Sarma said that he had recorded his estimate on paper after voting concluded on April 9, a practice he follows regularly. He noted that the final outcome reflected what he described as a strong public mandate in favour of the ruling alliance.

He further stated that the result had slightly exceeded his expectations, as the alliance secured more than 100 seats in the 126-member Assembly. According to him, the mandate represented a clear expression of trust from the electorate and reaffirmed public confidence in the government.

The final results showed the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieving a decisive victory in Assam, crossing the majority mark comfortably. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 82 seats on its own, while its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), secured 10 seats each, pushing the alliance well past the halfway mark.

The outcome ensures a third consecutive term for the BJP in Assam, further consolidating its position in the state’s political landscape. Political observers have noted that the scale of the mandate reflects sustained voter support for the alliance’s governance model and its organisational reach across regions.
