Tame Peter Tarh Wins ‘Mr Arunachal’ Title at 10th State Level Bodybuilding Championship

Guwahati, May 10: More than 80 athletes, including five women competitors, participated in the 10th State Level Bodybuilding Championship held at the D.K. Convention Hall, where Tame Peter Tarh emerged victorious by securing the prestigious “Mr Arunachal” title.

Organised by the Arunachal Body Building Association under the aegis of the Indian Body Builders Federation and the Northeast Body Builders Federation, the championship marked one of the biggest bodybuilding events held in the state so far. The competition carried a total prize pool of Rs 10.10 lakh, highlighting the growing popularity of bodybuilding and physique sports in Arunachal Pradesh.

Tarh also claimed the “Champion of Champions” crown and received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh for his performance. The runner-up and second runner-up in the category were awarded cash prizes of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively.

The men’s bodybuilding contest was conducted across six weight divisions ranging from 55 kg to 85 kg. Winners in each category received Rs 30,000, while the second and third-place finishers were awarded Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

Competitors from various districts and training centres took part in different categories, with the event attracting a large audience as well as members of the fitness fraternity from across the Northeast region.

In the women’s category, Yaza Yangfo secured the top position. Organisers noted that the participation of women in bodybuilding competitions in Arunachal Pradesh has been steadily increasing in recent years.

Several prominent personalities from the bodybuilding world attended the event, including international bodybuilder Hillang Yajik, Mr India and Mr Universe 2022 Karthikeswar Ravikumar, eight-time Mr World Arambam Bobby Singh and international judge Tashi Ongmu Lepcha.

Speaking on the sidelines of the championship, Hillang Yajik said government support had helped create opportunities for local athletes to display their talent and commitment to the sport.

Working president of the Arunachal Bodybuilding Association, Nabam Abo, also called on young people to stay away from drugs and alcohol and instead embrace a disciplined and fitness-oriented lifestyle.
