Guwahati, May 15: The bail hearing of accused Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the case related to singer Zubeen Garg was deferred to May 22 following proceedings held at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on May 15.
The hearing took place before Judge Mitali Thakur, who directed the investigating agency to submit the case diary before the next date of hearing.
Speaking to reporters after the proceedings, Advocate Jiaul Kamar said Mahanta’s legal team is expected to file a special affidavit on May 18 in relation to the bail plea.
During the hearing, both the prosecution and defence presented arguments before the court regarding the bail application. The prosecution also sought submission of additional documents connected to the case.
The matter is linked to the September 19 incident associated with the case involving Zubeen Garg. The court is expected to continue hearing the bail plea on May 22 after examining the case diary and related submissions.
In a significant development earlier, a fast-track court on April 30 had rejected the bail plea of Shyamkanu Mahanta, adding a new dimension to the ongoing legal proceedings.
