News Desk: Yogi Adityanath on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium, describing it as a major step towards strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting youth development in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony, the Chief Minister said the stadium is being developed with support from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators and will be spread across 46 acres of land with dedicated parking facilities. Additionally, around 60 acres of adjoining land have been reserved for a sports complex dedicated to indoor games.

Yogi Adityanath also revealed that another international cricket stadium is being developed in Varanasi with assistance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Chief Minister said the “double-engine government” is ensuring the availability of encroachment-free land to create world-class sports facilities and nurture future sporting talent.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that Indian Oil Corporation has contributed Rs 60 crore towards the construction of the stadium. Puri highlighted the Centre’s focus on sports and fitness through initiatives such as the Fit India Movement and Khelo India launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the stadium would inspire young athletes and help transform Gorakhpur into an important sporting hub in the region.
