Manas National Park to Shut for Tourists From June 5 Ahead of Monsoon Season

Manas, May 17: Tourist activities at Manas National Park will remain suspended from June 5 until further notice, as authorities have announced the seasonal closure of the reserve ahead of the monsoon period.

According to an official order issued by the authorities of Manas Tiger Reserve on May 16, all ecotourism operations inside the protected area, including jeep safaris, elephant safaris and boating activities, will be halted during the closure period.

The order, issued by C. Ramesh, stated that the decision has been taken in accordance with guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Forest officials said the annual suspension of tourism activities forms part of conservation efforts during the monsoon season, when human movement inside forest areas is restricted to reduce disturbances to wildlife and allow habitat management work to continue.

Authorities said the reserve witnessed strong tourist turnout during the current tourism season, attracting nearly 60,000 visitors, including around 1,600 international tourists. The park also generated approximately ₹1.5 crore in revenue during the period.

Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Manas National Park remains one of India’s important wildlife habitats and among the major ecotourism attractions in Northeast India.

Officials added that the reserve will reopen for visitors only after further notification from the authorities.
