Four Injured as Lawyer Allegedly Drives Drunk in Morigaon Hit-and-Run Spree

At least four people were injured, including two who were reportedly in critical condition, after a four-wheeler allegedly driven by a lawyer in an intoxicated state went on a hit-and-run spree at multiple locations in Morigaon town, according to local reports.

The incident reportedly began when the vehicle, bearing registration number AS 21M 3536, allegedly rammed into several four-wheelers and motorcycles while speeding through the heart of the town.

The vehicle later allegedly struck a pedestrian and a cyclist in front of a higher secondary school, leaving both injured. The driver reportedly fled the area before allegedly hitting another motorcycle near Vishal Mega Mart, injuring another person.

The vehicle was eventually stopped near Vishal Mega Mart after one of its tyres reportedly burst. Local residents caught the driver, identified as advocate Bitu Bora, and allegedly assaulted him before police reached the spot.

Police subsequently took Bora and the injured persons to Morigaon Civil Hospital for medical treatment. The injured were identified as Muktar Hussain, Nazrul Ahmed and Tanmoy Mahanta, while Bora was also injured during the incident.

According to reports, Bora allegedly caused a disturbance at the hospital and obstructed medical personnel while they were attending to patients.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, including the allegation that the lawyer was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Further details regarding the condition of those injured and the legal action in the case are awaited.
