Tezpur: In a major push to strengthen tourism, healthcare and public welfare in Sonitpur district, District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das on Saturday announced the introduction of a light-and-sound show at the historic Agnigarh. The show will portray the legendary love story of Usha and Aniruddha along with the mythological Hari-Hara Yuddha linked to King Baan.
The announcement was made during a programme at Chitralekha Udyan, where the District Commissioner also inaugurated new adventure sports facilities including sky cycling, zipline and zorbing ball rides to attract tourists and young visitors. Addressing the gathering, Das said the initiatives aim to promote Tezpur’s heritage tourism while extending support to economically weaker sections of society.

During the event, financial assistance of ₹50,000 was provided to the family of a critically ill woman, while ₹55,000 was handed to a meritorious student from a remote area who secured admission to the National Law University. Bicycles were also distributed among seven students from financially disadvantaged families in the Dhekiajuli and Naduar constituencies to help them attend school regularly.
The programme was attended by senior district officials, health department representatives and prominent citizens. Later, the District Commissioner inaugurated a modern air-conditioned mortuary at Tezpur Kanaklata Civil Hospital to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and support post-mortem preservation facilities in the district.
