Guwahati, May 26: A rare albino hog deer has been spotted in Assam’s famed Kaziranga National Park, drawing attention to the extraordinary biodiversity found within the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The unusual sighting gained wider attention after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared visuals of the animal on social media platform X. Reacting to the rare appearance, the chief minister described it as a reflection of the rich and diverse wildlife heritage of the state.
“Not every day does one witness something this rare,” Sarma wrote while sharing the visuals.
He further stated that such sightings underline Assam’s continued focus on wildlife conservation and efforts aimed at protecting even the rarest species inhabiting the state’s forests and protected ecosystems.
Kaziranga remains one of India’s most important wildlife habitats and is globally recognised for its ecological significance. The park supports a wide variety of species and is particularly known for its population of the endangered Indian rhinoceros, along with wild buffaloes, swamp deer and tigers.
The sighting of an albino hog deer has added another remarkable chapter to the park’s rich natural heritage and has once again highlighted the importance of preserving fragile wildlife ecosystems.
