Bodoland University VC Refutes Allegations Over PhD Degrees

Kokrajhar: Bodoland University Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.L. Ahuja has strongly dismissed recent media reports alleging irregularities in the awarding of PhD degrees, describing the claims as baseless and misleading. Addressing a press conference at the university’s conference hall, Prof. Ahuja clarified that reports suggesting the PhD degrees of 127 scholars were invalid and that the University Grants Commission (UGC) had summoned university authorities to New Delhi were factually incorrect.

He asserted that Bodoland University has been strictly adhering to all academic procedures and regulations prescribed by the UGC. “The academic standards and procedures followed by Bodoland University are fully in accordance with the guidelines and policies laid down by the UGC,” he said. The Vice-Chancellor alleged that certain reports were aimed at tarnishing the image of the university, which has been making steady progress in higher education, research, and academic development.

Clarifying reports regarding a meeting held on May 26, Prof. Ahuja stated that it was a routine review meeting convened by the UGC involving representatives from universities across the country. He emphasized that the meeting should not be interpreted as a summons or disciplinary action against Bodoland University. Representatives of the Bodoland University Teachers Association, including Ratul Deka of the Assamese Department and Janin Musahary of the Political Science Department, also attended the press conference. They criticized what they termed biased reporting by a section of the media and alleged that misinformation was being spread regarding the university’s academic processes. University authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining academic integrity and urged the public not to be influenced by what they described as unfounded allegations and misleading reports.
