Assam Govt and CM Sarma Fully Committed to Justice for Zubeen Garg, says Pabitra Margherita

Guwahati: Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the death of iconic singer-composer Zubeen Garg, describing him as a “jewel of Assam” whose artistic brilliance will remain unmatched for generations.

Speaking on the ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into Zubeen Garg’s death, Margherita said, “We have lost a jewel. Assam will not get an artiste of this caliber for the next 100 years. Garima’s sorrow is incomparable, for she lost her husband. But like her, the people of Assam and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are also waiting Zubeen Garg’s justice.”

Margherita emphasized that the Assam government has acted responsibly since day one, starting from bringing back Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains to organizing the state funeral attended by nearly 20 lakh people. “The government immediately formed an SIT to investigate the matter, and if necessary, the case will be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). That’s why both Garima Garg and the people of Assam have faith in the procedure,” he said.

He assured that all evidence collected by the SIT will be submitted to the court, which will then decide the course of justice. “Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will ensure that the entire case reaches the court properly. The government has done its duty, and now we will wait for the court to deliver justice,” he added.

Highlighting the integrity of the investigation team, Margherita remarked, “The SIT members are also well-wishers of Zubeen Garg and are doing their work with sincerity. We all — from Garima Garg to the Chief Minister and the people of Assam — want justice. If there is any mystery behind Zubeen’s death, those responsible must be punished.”

He concluded with a message of faith and hope, stating, “The Assam government will complete all preliminary work for the court. We are waiting, and we are hopeful — justice for Zubeen Garg will prevail.”
