Imphal, June 5: In a major anti-narcotics operation, security forces seized a large consignment of drugs in Manipur’s Jiribam district and arrested one person, officials said.
The joint operation was conducted by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force and the India Reserve Battalion.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, security personnel intercepted a Tata vehicle at Leingangpokpi on June 4 and recovered 4 lakh Yaba tablets concealed inside it, valued at approximately ₹47 crore.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a resident of Bihar, was arrested at the spot. The seized narcotics and vehicle have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal action.
Officials said the operation marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating through the Northeast region.
Further investigation is underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the consignment and to identify others linked to the network.
