Gaurav Gogoi Questions Probe in Zubeen Garg Murder Case, Seeks Clarity on Key Details

Guwahati: APCC president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has raised serious concerns over the ongoing investigation into the death of celebrated singer Zubeen Garg, questioning the transparency and focus of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and CID.

“Like Himanta Biswa Sarma said, Zubeen Garg’s was murdered, all these things we have are still not being informed to the public,” Gogoi said, highlighting that almost a month has passed since Assam Police registered a murder case, yet crucial details about how the alleged murder occurred, who orchestrated it, and whether any conspiracy was involved, remain undisclosed. He expressed frustration that the people of Assam have yet to receive clear information about the core aspects of the case.

“The focus seems to be entirely on the artistes, while the main questions about Zubeen Garg’s death remain unanswered,” Gogoi added, accusing the SIT of appearing to defame Assam’s artistes rather than concentrating on the primary investigation.

Highlighting gaps in the ongoing probe, Gogoi specifically mentioned Shyamkanu Mahanta’s role, stating that the public has yet to learn what he told the CID. “We are hearing everything about financial dealings, but we have no information on how Shyamkanu Mahanta secured funding from the Indian government or how he got the opportunity to organize festivals in Singapore and Thailand. The government has not shared any of these details,” Gogoi said.

Gogoi’s remarks underline growing public demand for a more transparent and comprehensive investigation, focusing on both the circumstances of Zubeen Garg’s death and the broader aspects of alleged financial and organizational activities connected to the case.

The Congress leader urged authorities to provide clarity on all facets of the investigation to ensure justice for Zubeen Garg and restore confidence among Assam’s citizens and artist community.

This development adds to the ongoing debate over the conduct of the SIT and CID, as fans and cultural figures continue to call for a thorough and impartial inquiry into the untimely demise of one of Assam’s most iconic artistes.
