Assam Rifles, Aizawl Police Recover IED in Mizoram, One Person Apprehended

Aizawl, June 15: A joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Aizawl Police resulted in the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) and the apprehension of one individual in the Seling area of Mizoram’s Aizawl district.

According to an official statement, the operation was conducted on June 10 as part of a coordinated mobile vehicle check post (MVCP) exercise aimed at enhancing security and preventing the movement of illegal and hazardous materials.

During the operation, security personnel intercepted and apprehended an individual identified as Yening Ku, who was allegedly transporting the IED. Besides the explosive device, the joint team also recovered an antenna component and articles of clothing suspected to be associated with the uniform of an underground cadre.

The apprehended individual, along with the seized items, was handed over to Aizawl Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Officials said the operation underscored the continued vigilance of security forces and their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Mizoram.

Further investigations are under way to determine the source of the explosive device, its intended use and any possible links connected to the recovery.
