Assam Police have seized heroin estimated to be worth around Rs 2.47 crore and arrested one person during an anti-narcotics operation in Sribhumi district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on June 15.
The seizure was made during a special operation conducted by the district police, according to details shared by the Chief Minister on social media platform X. The operation resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of heroin and the arrest of a suspected individual linked to the contraband.
Commending the efforts of the police personnel involved, Sarma reiterated the state government’s resolve to intensify its fight against drug trafficking and related crimes.
Highlighting the success of the operation, the Chief Minister remarked that “no chamber is secret enough for Assam Police,” underscoring the force’s ability to uncover concealed narcotics and dismantle illegal drug networks.
He further stated that the government’s anti-drug campaign would continue with full determination as part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics across the state.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the seized heroin and identify its intended destination, while efforts are also underway to trace any wider network connected to the case.
