New Delhi: India have received a major boost ahead of the upcoming ODI series against England, with veteran batter Virat Kohli making encouraging progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Kohli, who missed the recently concluded ODI series against Afghanistan, is now expected to undergo a fitness assessment at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on June 22. The former India captain sustained the injury during the IPL 2026 final while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The setback forced him out of the Afghanistan series, raising concerns over his availability for the England tour. However, recent reports suggest that his rehabilitation has progressed well and selectors remain optimistic about his return for the three-match ODI series beginning next month.

India chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier expressed confidence that Kohli could recover in time for the England assignment, despite uncertainty immediately after the injury. Kohli’s potential return comes at a crucial time for India, especially after all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the England series due to injury. The experienced batter remains a key figure in India’s ODI setup and is expected to play an important role as the team continues preparations for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. The final decision on Kohli’s inclusion will depend on the outcome of his fitness test, but the latest update has provided a significant morale boost for the Indian camp and cricket fans alike.
