Itanagar, June 24: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed concern over the flash floods in Keyi Panyor district that have caused extensive damage and disruption, while assuring that the state government remains fully prepared to tackle monsoon-related challenges.
Speaking on the situation, the Chief Minister said that preparedness measures were initiated well before the onset of the monsoon season. He noted that meetings were held with Deputy Commissioners of all 28 districts, followed by consultations with District Disaster Management Officers (DDMOs), to strengthen response mechanisms and ensure effective coordination across the state.
“We cannot control nature,” Khandu said, emphasising the importance of preparedness and public cooperation during adverse weather conditions.
He pointed out that Arunachal Pradesh receives heavy rainfall every monsoon, typically from April to September, making disaster preparedness a key priority for the administration.
Khandu urged residents, especially those living near river basins and downstream areas, to remain alert and follow safety advisories issued by district administrations. He also advised vulnerable communities to shift to relief camps set up by Deputy Commissioners whenever necessary.
The state government continues to monitor the evolving weather situation and has reiterated its commitment to ensuring timely relief and safeguarding affected populations during the ongoing monsoon season.
