Agartala, June 27: Tripura Police have seized narcotic substances valued at approximately Rs 21.5 lakh during a routine mobile patrol near the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in Sepahijala district, officials said.
The seizure was made late on Friday night along the Kulubari border road under the jurisdiction of Sonamura Police Station. According to Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, the contraband was recovered while police personnel were conducting a regular patrol in the border area.
During the operation, police recovered 2.5 kg of Yaba tablets, comprising around 24,000 tablets, along with 420 strips of Tepandotal tablets containing a total of 4,200 tablets.
After completing the prescribed legal procedures, the seized narcotic substances were taken into police custody as unclaimed property. Officials estimated the total market value of the recovered contraband at nearly Rs 21.5 lakh.
A case has been registered in connection with the seizure, and Sonamura Police have initiated an investigation to identify those involved in the possession and transportation of the narcotics. Investigators suspect the consignment was meant for illegal cross-border trafficking, and further inquiry is in progress.
