Itanagar, June 29: Continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods have caused widespread devastation across Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang and Lower Siang districts, damaging agricultural land, residential areas, public infrastructure and disrupting road connectivity at several locations.
In Lower Siang district, prolonged rainfall submerged vast stretches of paddy fields in Mane village, causing extensive damage to standing crops during the ongoing cultivation season and affecting the livelihoods of local farmers.
The flood situation also severely impacted the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border region, where the highway at Ruksin witnessed extensive waterlogging and erosion, disrupting vehicular movement and raising concerns over connectivity.
In neighbouring East Siang district, heavy rain triggered extensive damage at multiple locations. The link road leading to the Upper Campus of Jawaharlal Nehru College suffered significant erosion, affecting access to the institution.
Floodwaters from Sile and Sibo Korong inundated several localities in Pasighat, damaging residential and commercial establishments. Overflowing waters from Besong Korong also caused extensive destruction in parts of Taki Lalung and Bogong-I.
The historic Runne Church and the bridge over Letong Korong sustained considerable damage due to rising water levels, while the swollen Dengkam Stream at Ledum village destroyed several houses, leaving multiple families affected.
Road connectivity has also been severely disrupted, with stretches of National Highway-415 at Leku and Rani village remaining submerged under floodwaters, hampering transportation and the movement of essential services.
Rescue operations continued across the affected areas despite adverse weather conditions. In one such operation, the Indian Army rescued a person stranded at Oyan, highlighting the ongoing emergency response efforts.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid all non-essential travel and venture outdoors only in cases of emergency or urgent medical need. The district administration has also appealed to the public to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and extend assistance to affected communities during the ongoing flood situation.
