Itanagar, June 29: Arunachal Pradesh continues to face severe disruption due to relentless rainfall, with flash floods, landslides and river erosion affecting several districts over the past few days. The persistent downpour has damaged roads, bridges and public infrastructure while forcing the evacuation of residents from vulnerable locations.
The impact has been widespread, with districts such as East Kameng, West Kameng, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare and the capital region of Itanagar experiencing extensive flooding and landslides. Road connectivity has been severely affected in many areas, creating difficulties for residents and hampering the movement of essential services.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for parts of the state, prompting the authorities to issue travel advisories and step up preparedness measures. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert as the monsoon continues to intensify.
Rescue, relief and restoration work is being carried out by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army and district administrations in the affected regions. Teams have been deployed to assist stranded residents, restore damaged infrastructure and monitor vulnerable locations.
The latest assessment by Union Home Minister Amit Shah comes as the Arunachal Pradesh government continues efforts to restore connectivity, provide relief to affected families and closely monitor flood-prone areas amid the ongoing spell of intense monsoon rainfall across the Northeast.
