In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in the Northeast, the Assam Rifles’ Srikona Battalion, in coordination with Cachar Police, seized narcotics valued at an estimated ₹9.5 crore during a joint operation near Tollengram in Assam’s Cachar district on June 30.
The operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, leading security personnel to recover 30,000 Yaba tablets and 535 grams of Heroin No. 4 from the intercepted consignment.
According to officials, the narcotics had been cleverly concealed inside jars packed with red chillies in an apparent attempt to avoid detection. The hidden contraband was, however, discovered during the search conducted by the joint team.
Two women from Tollen Village in Manipur’s Tamenglong district were apprehended at the scene in connection with the seizure. They were subsequently handed over to Cachar Police for further legal action and investigation.
The latest operation follows a series of successful crackdowns on smuggling activities in the region. Just a day earlier, security agencies had seized Yaba tablets and heroin worth approximately ₹5 crore, while another operation resulted in the recovery of illegal foreign cigarettes valued at around ₹2.8 crore.
Officials said the recovery reflects the effective coordination between the Assam Rifles, Cachar Police and the Customs Department in targeting narcotics trafficking and smuggling networks operating across the Northeast.
Reaffirming its resolve to combat the illegal drug trade, the Assam Rifles said it will continue to conduct sustained joint operations with law enforcement agencies to curb narcotics trafficking and strengthen security in the region.
