Guwahati: In a crucial development in the ongoing investigation into the death of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg, the official post-mortem report from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has confirmed that his death was not caused by poisoning.
According to reports, the detailed forensic report categorically stated that no traces of poison or toxic substances were found in Zubeen’s viscera or other body fluids, effectively ruling out any possibility of toxicological interference. The report has attributed the cause of death to drowning, marking a significant clarification in the case that has gripped Assam for weeks.
The findings directly contradict earlier claims made by Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, one of Zubeen’s band members who was arrested in connection with the case. In his “grounds of arrest” notice, Goswami had alleged that Zubeen may have been poisoned by prime accused Shyamkanu Mahanta and the singer’s manager, Siddharth Sharma—a claim that had prompted investigators to consider the possibility of foul play.
However, the GMCH report, based on viscera samples sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi, clearly concludes that no evidence of toxins or poison was present in any of the exhibits examined.
The confirmation from GMCH marks a major turning point in the high-profile investigation led by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), providing a scientific basis that eliminates one of the key theories surrounding the mysterious circumstances of the singer’s death.
Authorities are expected to present the report before the court soon, as the SIT continues to examine other aspects of the case, including possible negligence and the sequence of events leading up to Zubeen Garg’s tragic demise.
