Three persons from Uttar Pradesh were arrested after Guwahati Police seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with a face value of ₹10.9 lakh from a vehicle intercepted at Six Mile on Panjabari Road.
The operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. Police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number UP-35BV-8240 and detained its three occupants for questioning.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Anuj Gupta (34) from Unnao district, Mahesh Shukla (32) from Kanpur district, and Roshan Gupta (28), also a resident of Kanpur district.
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered counterfeit Indian currency notes worth ₹10.9 lakh, all in the denomination of ₹500.
Apart from the fake currency, officers also seized a gas cutter along with a gas cylinder, a dao, a Gold Flame lighter and a cutting plier from the vehicle.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation to determine the origin of the counterfeit currency and identify any larger network involved in the racket.
