The Human Rights of Arunachal (HRA), a civil society organisation in the state, has sought clarification from the Indian Army and the Nah Welfare Society (NWS) over conflicting statements regarding the alleged presence of Chinese forces in the Taksing sector of Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district.
In a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, HRA Chairman Dr. Kipa Kaha and Secretary General Jesy Debia expressed concern over the contradictory versions presented by the two sides and urged both the Indian Army and the Nah Welfare Society to place the facts before the people of Arunachal Pradesh and the country.
Stating that the issue concerns national security, the organisation said the public deserves accurate and transparent information. It emphasised that no organisation should play with the sentiments of the people of India, particularly those living in Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the HRA, the Indian Army has categorically denied reports of any fresh Chinese incursion or occupation in Upper Subansiri district, maintaining that the claims are baseless and asserting that no encroachment has taken place in the area.
However, the Nah Welfare Society has alleged that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has constructed roads, bridges, camps and other infrastructure in areas near the Taksing sector that it considers to be Indian territory. The organisation has also claimed to have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri, urging both the state and Central governments to intervene.
In view of the conflicting assertions, the HRA has called upon the Government of India, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the concerned authorities to carry out an impartial verification of the matter and make the findings public wherever appropriate.
The organisation said greater transparency would help preserve public confidence while ensuring that national security considerations are protected. Reaffirming its commitment to India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the HRA said it stands firmly in support of the security of Arunachal Pradesh and the nation and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved through verified facts and responsible communication.
